Last Saturday, I visited the Animal Protection Center in Midori City. I went there because I wanted to know what they do for animals. A staff member told us that the main role of the center is to create a better life for every animal. They have three kinds of activities.

First, they rescue and rehab animals. These animals are pets or wildlife. The staff members take care of them and release them back to their home. Sometimes, they find new families for the pet animals.

Second, they improve the lives of animals. To do so, they support people if they need help to look after their pets. For example, if they hear that a pet animal is suffering, they meet the family and give advice.

Third, they teach the next generation how to live with animals. For example, they hold an event for students. In this event, students learn about how to take care of animals.

I recommend you visit the Animal Protection Center if you are interested in animals.

Mr.Sasaki: Today let’s discuss what type of person you want to be friends with. Look at these cards. You can see five words: funny, smart, kind, honest and confident. These words explain about people. When you make a friend, which is the most important? Please rank them in order of importance. David, can you tell us your idea?

David　: Oh, it’s difficult…. I rank “honest” number one because we should not tell a lie to each other. If my friends tell a lie, I feel very sad. And I rank “kind” number two, “funny” number three, “confident” number four, and “smart” number five.

Mr.Sasaki: I see. Can you tell us why you rank “smart” five?

David　: Well, I think we can become smarter if we study together. So my friends don't need to be smart from the first.

Mr.Sasaki: That’s interesting.

Boy: Oh, that’s nice. Do you know where we can eat it?

Aya: Yes. There is a restaurant near the park. My brother tells me that the restaurant is very good.

Boy: Sounds good. Let’s go there.
