In science class, we learned that renewable energy is made from natural sources such as the sun, water, wind and the earth’s heat. I was interested in the earth’s heat, so I asked some questions to our science teacher, Ms. Tanaka.

She told me that the temperature of the earth remains the same in all seasons. Thanks to this, the earth’s heat has been used in different ways. For example, in some parts of the United States, the earth’s heat is used to warm the school buildings in winter. Air conditioners uses a lot of energy. But they need less energy because they use the earth’s heat. I think this is a great idea.

There is another example in Japan, too. Some farmers use the earth’s heat to grow vegetables in their greenhouses in winter. Many farmers use fossil fuels to warm their greenhouses. By using the earth’s heat, they can reduce CO2 emissions.

Recently, renewable energy has become common in Japan. In the future, I hope I will be able to use the earth’s heat in my house.
